Integration timeline: not defined
Key recommendations:
1) AAISA members should: i) notice where evolving community needs are, ii) increase networking, iii) facilitate trust and community between other small centres, and iv) ensure each centre has a shared understanding of the zone of collaborations graph before working together.
2) AAISA as a whole should: i) connect people who work on similar topics and program types across all levels, ii) engage in collective advocacy for small centres, and iii) work to address funding complexities and other barriers to collaboration.
Community organizations:
1) AAISA
2) Bassa Social Innovations
Future research / gaps identified: Evaluate implementation and outcomes of the zones of collaboration model.
Key findings:
1) Successful collaborations follow the formula of: collaboration = need + opportunity + desire (capacity + permission) + accountability
2) Opportunity barriers (e.g. competitive funding, restrictive geographical boundaries) and facilitating accountability are identified as key areas to improving collaboration between small centres.
3) Tensions that hinder successful collaborating include: size and scope; balancing capacity; competition; and client focus.
4) The proposed model for future collaborations is a graph with accountability and complexity on the y-axis, and relationship and trust on the x-axis. The zones of the graph shift from the zone of networking at the lowest end, and increase to the zone of cooperation, zone of coordination, and the zone of collaboration in the highest quadrant. The zone of caution exists where there is high accountability and complexity but low relationship and trust.
