Community organizations: n/a
Key findings:
1) Women do not receive enough care for a miscarriage, and immigrant women are particularly vulnerable as they may have a lack of social and familial support in Canada.
2) Cost, stigma, lack of support, language and other accessibility factors impact immigrant women’s ability to access therapy post-miscarriage.
3) Participants stated that to heal, women need culturally appropriate support in normalizing miscarriages, accessible physical and mental health care, and immigrant-friendly, holistic and reliable resources.
Key populations: immigrant women who have experienced a miscarriage
Future research / gaps identified:
Due to COVID-19, the co-design sessions were held online (where familiarity and usability of certain technology was a barrier for some participants). User experience testing was also conducted online, and in-person user cues may have been missed.
Integration timeline: not defined
Key recommendations:
When designing health apps, important considerations are:
1) Make the user feel empowered
2) Create a sense of full control for the user
3) Implement simple and accessible design and language for women of different languages and health statuses post-miscarriage.
