Key findings
This study is exploring what the living and working conditions of undocumented labour workers are in northern Alberta and why they experienced loss of status. The findings show that migrant workers face challenges to come to Canada such as making large fee payments. They lose status because they were not employed at the time of expiry of their permits or they did not receive the necessary support from their employers. They refused to return due to the burden of having to support their families financially. As a result, they experience racism and difficult work conditions. Their living situation is similarly difficult because they do not have access to healthcare, education, income support, insurance, etc.
