Jasper Local Immigration Partnership: Objectives, Strategy and Achievements

Abstract
The Jasper Local Immigration Partnership's (JLIP) vision is a welcoming and inclusive Jasper where immigrants and refugees participate fully in the social, economic, cultural and political life of the community. JLIP focuses on bringing stakeholders together for better solutions, community-based research and consultation, and improved service coordination. The 8 areas in the JLIP strategy are discussed, as well as the progress JLIP as made thus far.

Key findings:

1) JLIP has 3 main objectives, focusing on: i) stakeholder collaboration, ii) community-based research and consultation, and iii) improving service coordination.

2) The 8 key areas of the JLIP strategy are: i) employment, ii) housing, iii) education, training and entrepreneurship, iv) language, v) access to services, vi) welcoming and inclusion, vii) health and wellness, and viii) media representation.

3) Achievements of the JLIP thus far include: local newcomer survey, inclusive workplace advocacy, information and resource hub for newcomers on the JLIP website, business start-up support, creating the Settlement and Newcomer Network program to foster community connections, service maps, cultural kitchens, and increased funding for newcomer-specific mental health supports.
